How important is our privacy? According to the government it’s not important at all. They actually believe a breach of our rights is something positive. That’s terrible logic right? A new bill in the works called the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act or more commonly known as CISPA. Basically what it does is it allows the United States Government to have access to everything you do on the Internet without a warrant. It also allows companies to give out your private information to whoever they want. This includes E-Mails, Text Messages, and even Cloud Storage.
Basically, as long as a company feels you’re a “threat” of any kind they can hand over your information to the government. It goes against numerous bills that are already in place however if passed, it does not matter. If the illegally hand over information the U.S. Government is NOT required to tell you that you’re personal information has been compromised.
The bill is meant to protect not only companies but individual people if threats are made. Which sounds good in theory. However, the bill is written with so many loopholes that the power handed to these people will be abused. It’s another opportunity to lose your sense of privacy and to lose another one of your rights. However, if we all stand together and we make our voices heard we may be able to stop CISPA before it does any damage. Contact your State Representatives, do anything you can to get your opinion heard.
